SMS recovery · Coming soon · planned for the Growth plan and up
SMS dunning for failed payments
SMS recovery is coming soon and is not available yet. Email works today, and WhatsApp is available as an additional step. Billing emails get buried, and a short text with a link is hard to miss, so SMS is planned as a fallback: Revnio will text only customers who didn’t act on the recovery email.
When Revnio will send an SMS
SMS is planned as a fallback, not a blast. Once it launches, a customer will get a text only when all of these are true:
- The payment is still unrecovered.
- A recovery email was sent and its link has not been clicked.
- The configured delay has passed since that email (24 hours by default; you can change it).
- The customer has a phone number on file with your billing provider.
- They haven’t already received an SMS for this failed payment.
What the message will look like
Texts will be written from templates you control, with variables such as the customer’s name and the amount due. Each one will include a short tracked link to the same secure recovery page as the email, so clicks show up in your channel analytics.
If send-time optimisation is on, the text will be held until the hour the customer usually engages instead of arriving at 3 a.m.
Keep it short and clear
A good recovery text names your company, says what happened and gives the link. For example: “Acme: your payment of $49 didn’t go through. Update your card here to keep your account active: [link]”. Skip anything that looks like a scam: no urgency theatre, no requests for card numbers by reply.
Getting started
- SMS is not available yet, so there is nothing to set up for it today.
- Connect your own email in Settings → Integrations → Email: this is the first channel in every recovery.
- Optionally add WhatsApp in Settings → WhatsApp as a second channel.
- SMS will appear in Settings when it launches.
Frequently asked questions
Which plan includes SMS recovery?
SMS is planned for the Growth and Pro plans. It is not available yet.
Where does Revnio get the phone number?
From the customer record in your billing provider. Customers without a phone number simply don’t receive texts.
Will customers get a text every day?
No. Revnio will send at most one recovery SMS per failed payment.
Do I need consent to text customers?
Rules depend on the country. In many places, transactional messages about an existing account are treated differently from marketing, but you are responsible for collecting any consent your customers’ jurisdictions require.
Recover failed payments on autopilot
