Paddle Retain alternative

Revnio vs Paddle Retain

Paddle Retain is paddle's retention toolkit (formerly ProfitWell Retain): payment recovery, cancellation flows and term optimization. Revnio is automated failed-payment recovery for SaaS on Stripe, Chargebee and Paddle, with email and WhatsApp outreach (SMS coming soon) at a flat monthly price. Here is how they compare, including when Paddle Retain is the better choice.

About Paddle Retain

Paddle's Retain (formerly ProfitWell Retain) came to Paddle with its 2022 acquisition of ProfitWell. It covers payment recovery, cancellation flows and term optimization (offers to move customers to longer plans). Recovery emails are sent through Postmark so they appear to come from you, with in-app notifications through Paddle.js and one SMS between the first and second recovery emails.

It works natively with Paddle Billing and also connects to Stripe Billing, Chargebee, Braintree, Chargify/Maxio, Recharge, Recurly and Zuora. Since August 2025, Paddle's changelog says payment recovery is included for Paddle Billing merchants at no extra cost.

Pricing

Paddle's help center says Retain is performance-based for larger companies and flat-fee for smaller ones, starting at $500/month, and its August 2025 changelog says it is included at no extra cost for Paddle Billing merchants. Revnio is $49, $149 or $349 per month on any of Stripe, Chargebee or Paddle.

Revnio's plans and what each includes are on the pricing page. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial.

When Paddle Retain is the better choice

  • You bill through Paddle Billing: recovery is included at no extra cost.
  • You use Braintree, Recurly, Zuora or Recharge.
  • You want term optimization offers (moving monthly customers to annual plans).

When Revnio is the better fit

  • You want WhatsApp follow-ups from your own business number as part of recovery.
  • Your team works in Salesforce or HubSpot and needs failures and recoveries synced there.
  • You bill through Stripe or Chargebee and want a flat price below Retain's $500/mo starting tier.
  • You want to try it first: Revnio has a self-serve 14-day free trial.

Recent changes

  • As of August 5, 2025, Retain settings and payment recovery moved into the Paddle Billing dashboard; cancellation flows and term optimization were still hosted in ProfitWell at that time.
  • Retain runs on live accounts only, with no sandbox.

Switching to Revnio

Connecting takes a few minutes: paste a restricted Stripe key, or an API key for Chargebee or Paddle. Revnio sets up the webhook in your account, syncs your customers, subscriptions and invoices, and starts recovery on new failed payments. To avoid customers getting two sets of reminders, turn off the other tool's emails for the same failures once Revnio is live. Our dunning email templates and decline code guide help you set up the sequence.

Frequently asked questions

Is Paddle Retain the same as ProfitWell Retain?

Yes. Paddle acquired ProfitWell in 2022, and Retain is now part of Paddle. Some of its help docs still sit under the ProfitWell name.

I use Paddle Billing. Do I need Revnio?

Paddle says payment recovery is included for Paddle Billing merchants, so start there. Revnio adds WhatsApp and Salesforce/HubSpot sync if you need them. With Paddle, Revnio leaves the retry schedule to Paddle and handles outreach.

How much does Retain cost if I am not on Paddle Billing?

Paddle's help center lists a flat fee starting at $500/month for smaller companies and performance-based pricing for larger ones.

Trying Revnio as a Paddle Retain alternative?

Connect Stripe, Chargebee or Paddle in a few minutes and see your failed payments, decline codes and recovery sequence before you pay anything. 14-day free trial, no credit card required.
